Dear Prospective Families and Visitors,

Thank you for your interest in Tempe Preparatory Academy, the only open enrollment public high school ranked in Arizona’s Top 10 for two consecutive years (Arizona Department of Education Report Card 2013). Tempe Preparatory Academy (Grades sixth through twelfth) is a free, state-chartered public school with a mission to educate students for the lifelong pursuit of truth, beauty and goodness through a rigorous liberal arts curriculum of honors level courses, small class sizes of 23 students, and a 13:1 student-faculty ratio.

Providing an education that is generally available only at the most prestigious and expensive high schools in the country, Tempe Prep students participate actively in classes through a Socratic style of instruction to explore many of the greatest works of Western Civilization. We study the liberal arts of grammar and rhetoric, logic and mathematics, history, natural science, and philosophy, along with the fine arts of music, drawing, painting, and drama. This creates an environment of enrichment, depth of inquiry and curiosity.

Tempe Prep parents are actively involved in many aspects of our school and contribute significantly to the success of our students. We hope that you will be anxious to become a part of the impressive parent involvement that is vital to the effectiveness of our school. If you are looking for a school that offers a rigorous curriculum, small class sizes, safety, uniforms, athletics/activities, and most of all, a setting where students are continuously engaging in the learning process, then you have found your educational home at Tempe Preparatory Academy and we look forward to receiving your application.

Thank you for your interest in us,

Dr. Wayne Porter

Step 1: Schedule a School Tour
Step 2: Determine Registration Eligibility
Step 3: Application

The Wait List

TPA draws from the waiting list throughout the year as openings become available. The waiting list rolls from year to year.

For example, an applicant placed on the waiting list for seventh grade would not need to go through the lottery process again for eighth grade. The applicant would maintain his or her position. New applicants fall behind previous wait-listed applicants.

An application received after January 15 is placed at the bottom of the wait list in the order in which it is received.

Tempe Preparatory Academy Tour Dates

Tour dates each year are scheduled on Thursday’s of each week through mid-December and begin at 10a.m.
